~*~*~*~

Orias cast his eyes over heaven from his place above. He’d heard it second hand from Lucifer but he trusted Lucifer enough, as he was his caretaker, to believe what he’d heard. He was worried to say the least; he knew how much this mattered to Zachariah, how much being a disappointment to Michael was. Not that Orias thought this made him a disappointment, but he knew that in Zachariahs eyes it would be and that he’d be off somewhere sulking… and that’s why he needed to find him.

Orias soared higher. He was careful not to get too high before heading to the one place he knew Zachariah would go if he needed to be alone, or needed him and was to prideful or his pride had been challenged, to ask. He flew as fast as he could before slowing down once he reached the clearing. It was the first place he’d taken Zachariah when they met and it held a certain power to it, something that always boggled and amazed Orias.

He smiled and walked past the last bit of tree’s and took in a deep breath. He could feel the water in the air, the flower’s singing out to him, it had been the whole reason he had found it, those voiced in his head that had shown him what he was really for. He wasn’t the very social type like Balthazar and it wasn’t like he wanted to be a social reject, but he preferred the time alone, with the plants more then with his brothers and sisters.

He shook his head, clearing them of thoughts. He needed his full attention on the here and now if he was going to give Zachariah his full attention, to help him through this. He squinted and spotted his brother sitting on the rock in the middle of a lake. The lake itself was part of a waterfall which seemed to come from nowhere which was part of its soothing effects. He hoped that it had helped Zachariah calm down enough to talk to him.

He walked towards the black-haired little boy, who was huddled on the rock, grey wings held close to his body, but they were hanging the wrong way. Orias frowned and wondered exactly had happened. He had a feeling he knew who was behind it, who was always behind these things when it came to Zachariah.

“Zach?” Orias called out as he made his way towards his brother, walking instead of flying over to him, giving him some time to adjust to the intrusion. “Are you alright?” he asked softly as he stopped right before the rock. “What happened to your wings, Zachariah?”

He didn’t say anything, just pulled them closer, lifting his head to show red, puffy eyes that were still a beautiful shade of brown. He frowned and pulled himself up onto the rock and ran his fingers through his hair. “Zachariah, tell me what happened.” He was worried now, had Michael gotten mad at him, had Zachariah even let Michael see him like this. “Here, let me help you.”

“No!” Zachariah yelled and pulled away a little. “I don’t need any help, I‘m fine go away Orias, I don’t want you here.”

If this had been a few months ago, Orias would have left and gone crying to Lucifer, but by now he knew just how to deal with him when he was like this. He knew Zachariah wasn’t actually telling him to leave, he just didn’t know how to ask for help, he was too prideful for that. He also had the habit of pushing Orias away, like he was scared if he let him too close, he’s leave and hurt him; but Orias wouldn’t, no matter how hard he shoved.

Orias shook his head and pressed his fingers gently into Zachariah’s feathers, watching as he shivered. “No Zachariah, you are hurt, I will not leave you.” he whispered and dragged his fingers down, combing the feather’s back into their proper position. “I’m not sure I can heal the wing, but we can get you well groomed and figure out what happened, and then hopefully I can convince you to visit Raphael.”

Orias hummed as he worked, finger tips brushing the sensitive places he knew would draw pain away from him and replace it with a tingly pleasure. He flipped any wrong-facing feather, un-bending bent ones and plucking loose or too-damaged ones. He worked quietly; the only sounds were the water-fall, Orias’ humming and the soft intakes of breath, shudders and whimpers from Zachariah. He was enjoying this, and Orias was glad, he wanted to make him feel better, to make him smile like only he could.

“You’re so beautiful Zachariah.” Orias murmured.

“Don’t be silly Orias, don’t say things like that.” Zachariah scolded, but Orias could see the flush and smiled, biting back a giggle as he finished with one side and moved to the other. “You don’t have to do this.” he whispered after a beat. “I’m fine.”

“No your not and I like calling you beautiful, because you are. In my eyes you are as beautiful as the prettiest flower, like ocean waves, crashing against the shore.” He smiled. “You’re like an old tree that stands in a forest, un moving or changed, you’re strong about your beliefs and you never let anyone change that. That’s why I love you.” He smiled when he saw the bright blush on the older angel’s face.

“Stop it Orias, you’re being ridiculous!” Zachariah protested and flailed his arms a little.

“Oh I am, am I?”

“Yes.”

Orias giggled and leaned in to gently kiss Zachariah before getting up, the grooming finished. Zachariah sat there, stunned and didn’t fight when Orias pulled him to his feet. He lifted Zachariah into his arms and took off into the air. Zachariah was in no potion to fly, and Orias didn’t mind carrying him. The older angel held on tightly, looking down, he hated it; because it made him feel small and insignificant, Orias knew that.

“What happened Zach, please tell me.” Orias pried and Zach laid his head against Orias’ chest, sighing in defeat. “We don’t have to tell anyone else, I promise.”

“We were practicing more… difficult flying routines today, and Balthazar was acting all flippant, and he kept running into people, purposely knocking them down or causing them to loose track of what they were doing.” Zachariah explained. “I told him he had to stop and he rolled his eyes and waves me away… but he did it to me next, and I landed wrong…”

Orias frowned and hugged him close. “I’m sorry… but that’s not your fault. You did nothing wrong, that was all Balthazar. You have nothing to be ashamed of, in fact Balthazar should be punished, he broke the rules, not you. You tried to tell him.” Orias knew how to talk to him, how to relax him. Feed his need to be the one who is right, let him know he didn’t let anyone down and that others were breaking the rules. And, like the wind, he was instantly heading in a new direction.

“You’re right, I’m going to report him to Michael and Raphael. Raphael will not be pleased. Plus he hurt someone with his stunt this time and could have hurt others, he needs to be controlled!”

“Yes, he does.” Orias agreed and smiled, letting him ramble on and on.

This, this was why he loved him; he was so passionate. But no one got to see that… only him. And that was the best part.
