Then…

“Um, Dean, he does kind of have a right to be mad at us…”

“Damn right I do!”

“Oh yeah Sam, why’s that?” Dean countered.

“He did, sort of die for us.”

“You think
that’s what all this has been about?” Gabriel snapped, and the air crackled. “I already knew I was going to die, went ahead and saw the end, remember? No, this is about you two knuckleheads claiming my plan as your own!”

Sam stared and Dean made a surprised choking sound. Crowley was chuckling in the corner and Bobby looked worried for his house.

“Oh yeah, I knew about that. Cas phoned and you say you came up with an idea. Bull-shit, you two muffin-heads couldn’t come up with an awesome plan like that if it stripped naked and started doing the chicken dance in front of your eyes!” Gabriel waved a hand around. “And then you don’t tell Cas I died! So I keep on going around looking like the bad guy, instead of the guy who came up with the plan that saved the world because hey, the Winchesters are grade A douche-bags.”

“Oh yeah Sammy, brilliant plan, save for the fact we are trying to cross the border with a trunk load of weapons. Yeah, so not going to happen,” Dean snapped and although Gabriel wanted to hit him with something, he had a point. “Plus I’m still in the damn database, if we get pulled over or checked, they are going to figure that I, once again, faked my death. Really, that’ll be twice.”

“So then it’ll just be Gabriel and I?” Castiel asked and not that he didn’t love his little brother or think that he couldn’t protect himself, but it would be nice with backup.

“Or, we could just take them with us, by normal route. You’re all juiced up again and I’m still my awesome” - Dean interrupted him with a snort and Gabriel sent him a glare - “self. All archangel glory and Trickstery goodness rolled into one custom made vessel.”

“There’s been a rash of demon sightings, which is weird because all gates to hell have been shut, and most of the demons got dragged back when Lucifer got locked back up. We don’t know where they are all coming from, and we have a bad feeling someone’s opened up a new Hell Gate.”

“It is quite possible, there are more then one and they are spread across the world. There are four here in the U. S., two in Canada, three in Europe, three in Russia, one in Australia and one in South America.” Crowley spoke like he was used to putting input in and Dean guessed he was and that still left him feeling uneasy.

“No, Dean you are being difficult.” He sounded frustrated and he had no reason to be frustrated, Dean didn’t leave him, Dean waited, waited a whole week for him to show up again before going to Lisa’s, Cas had no right. “I did not wish to leave.”

“Then why did you?” Dean snapped and he didn’t care if he hurt Cas’ feelings, he was pissed, angry and hurt and these feelings he had repressed, it was all just to much.

“Because, Heaven needed me.” Dean was going to counter that but Cas didn’t give him time. “I understand that Heaven was wrong Dean, that’s why I went back. I went to fix it, so that it wouldn’t happen again. I went back so Heaven could see what
you showed me.

“KARISSA!” The authoritative voice cut through the air like a sword and drew everyone’s – including the demons' – attention. “GET YOUR SUICIDAL ASS BACK IN HERE.
NOW!

The distraction only worked for a moment before they were being rushed again, only the amount of demons filling into the compartment was lessening, and Gabriel could faintly hear rushed Latin. Someone was exorcising the demons as fast as they could, it was pretty good too. She – the person sounded female – could have passed for fluent, and she probably was.

Now…

Dean really, really fucking hated planes.

A lot.

Crowley had caught the tickets and handed them out, putting Bobby and Crowley two rows ahead of them, Sam and Gabriel in the seats behind them and them that left him and Cas in the seats behind them. They were also flying first class, which was kind of nice, but it didn’t stop him from gripping the armrests until his knuckles turned white. Thank God Cas had taken the window seat, and had his face so close he blocked out all pictures, and Dean kind of wondered what Cas found so amusing that he seemed enthralled in what ever he saw.

Apparently from the amused chuckle Sam was making, Gabriel was doing the same thing, only he was making commentary. Not loud enough for Dean to hear. Anymore. After listening for ten minutes about how high they were, Dean had kicked the back of Sam’s seat, hoping he’d get the idea and shut the Trickster up. It seemed to work because Gabriel couldn’t be heard anymore, or at least Dean couldn’t hear him. He would have been listening to ACDC, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, but he hadn’t been able to find his Walkman.

“Are you alright, Dean?”

He turned his head a fraction to see Cas giving him a worried look, and he had closed the shut to the window. Dean nodded, not really wanting to admit he was terrified of the damn stupid plane they were on, and would be for six fucking hours.

“Aw, is poor Deany afraid of flying?” Gabriel had turned around in his seat so he could look back at them. Dean took gratification in glaring heavily at him.

“Is this true?” Cas asked, his tone thoughtful and not mocking like Gabriel’s had been.

“Yes,” he grit out and then the plane shook, which was not fucking natural.

His hand flew and gripped onto Cas’ with a death grip, his eyes closed tightly as he waited out the turbulence. Still, when Gabriel fell backwards, off balance, and into the seats in front of him which caused Crowley to scold the Archangel saying something about ‘not being able to take him anywhere’ Dean felt a little better. This of course ended when they hit bigger turbulence and the plane shook once more, making him dig his nails into Cas’ hands, and he was sure of this had been Sam, Sam would have been bitching and pulling them away.

Cas’ hand stayed; he didn’t pull away.

And neither did Dean.

They landed and Dean nearly kissed the ground, nearly, he had some class, instead he gripped the wall till he felt he wouldn’t fall over and then looked to Cas, who had waited for him. Dean shook of the feeling that rose in his stomach when he saw that, and then jogged to catch up with the others, who were standing there, staring at the airport lobby with wide-eyed expressions. Dean pushed up so he could see – Sam was too tall for his own good – and then stopped, his eyes finding what the others had.

Oh kiss me and smile for me, tell me that you'll wait for me, hold me like you never let me go.” A man sung as her twirled a lady, who had tears in her eyes, her arms moving to wrap around his neck and he looked down at her with loving eyes that sort of made Dean feel uncomfortable. “Cause I'm leaving on a jet plane, I don't know when I'll be back again. Oh babe, I hate to go.” He pulled her close once again and this time she was smiling back.

But I'm leaving on a jet plane, I don't know when I'll be back again. Oh babe, I hate to go. But I'm leaving on a jet plane.” He leaned down and kissed her with earnest and she kissed him back, as the tellers behind them started where he left off.

Leaving on a jet plane. Leaving on a jet plane. Leaving on a jet plane. Leaving on a jet plane. Leaving on a jet plane. Leaving on a jet plane. Leaving on a jet plane.” They all sung in harmony that was completely unnatural.

The man broke the kiss, both of them breathing heavily as they stared at each other with longing expressions. “On a jet plane.

The music, which had been coming from nowhere, disappeared and everyone got back to work like nothing had happened.

“What in Father's name…” Gabriel whistled. “This is either one crafty Trickster, or one powerful demon.”

“There’s a demon that could do this?” Sam asked, obviously his nerdy self couldn’t stop himself from asking.

“Yes, there are a few,” Cas nodded.

Dean shivered, he wasn’t getting a bad vibe, but this, this was unnatural, why where people randomly breaking into song? It was weird and they were going to have to figure that out later, when they found the stupid Hell Gate, closed it and then wasted who ever opened it. He knew it wasn’t going to be that easy though. He just hoped they didn’t get pulled into what ever seemed to be going down in London, England.

“So, where can we find a hotel?” Dean asked, wanting to get as far from the airport as possible.

“Oh, were not staying at a hotel, no we will be staying with an old friend of mine.”

Oh yeah, because that sounded like a good idea.

Castiel leaned against a wall at Crowley’s “friend’s” house as Dean dialled Lisa, informing her he’d be longer then he thought, and that they were in London, England. Cas didn’t hate her, he couldn’t, it wasn’t her fault that Dean’s feelings strayed towards her and not him. He knew Dean was not…gay and did not see men as enjoyable, like he indulged in females. Cas had been hoping that he would have been different, but he accepted his fate, and would watch on in silence, making sure no harm would come to him.

“No, Lisa…Wait. I am…Lisa!” Dean looked pained and Cas couldn’t help his brows from furrowing. “No…God Lisa, I’m coming back we just…I didn’t know…Yeah…Wait.”

You're on the phone with your girlfriend, she's upset. She's going off about something that you said. 'Cause she doesn't get your humour like I do.” Cas heard the music pick up, and the words left his throat before he could advise them of a different course.

It felt, nice to say the words, right, like his heart wanted to say them, to scream them at Dean, to make him understand. Still, it wasn’t the place or the time for him to be singing. Still, there was some gospel music that was playing, not louder then the other music, the one that fit to what he was singing, and it felt nice, calmed him a bit.

I'm in the room; it's a typical Tuesday night. I'm listening to the kind of music she doesn't like, and she'll never know your story like I do.” This was true; Lisa never would know his story. Cas had raised him from perdition, put his body back together, saw him at his worst and best; loved him through it all. “But she wears short skirts, I wear dress-shirts. She's at home and I'm right behind you, dreaming about the day when you wake up and find, that what you're looking for has been here the whole time.

“Hey Cas, we should scope out the area, see if we can find anything.”

Cas nodded and followed Dean as he grabbed his coat, obviously missing his Impala as he instinctively grabbed for keys that weren’t there. Cas figured he found it uncomfortable being around two demons, and after what Ruby had done he didn’t blame him.

If you could see that I'm the one who understands you. Been here all along, so why can't you see? You, you belong with me, you belong with me.” The words made his heart hurt, which was a weird feeling, he reached out a hand to grasp Dean’s shoulder but he was out of reach. He frowned and picked up his pace so he was walking beside him.

“Hey Cas, sorry if I’ve been acting weird and all, just, it’s been hard you know, getting used to having people around again, after I thought two of you were dead, one of you left for good, and had no clue the other was sharing his bed with a demon.” Dean chuckled and shoved his hands into his pockets.

Walking the streets with you and your worn-out jeans, I can't help thinking this is how it ought to be.” Cas followed Dean as they head towards a park, taking seats on the bench, like that one time before. “Laughing on a park bench, thinking to myself, hey, isn't this easy?

“Heh, remember the last time we were here, you told me you had doubts, that’s the first time I saw you, like really saw you. When I had hope that hey, maybe not all of you guys are dicks.” Dean chuckled.

And you've got a smile that could light up this whole town. I haven't seen it in a while since she brought you down. You say you're fine, I know you better than that. Hey, what you doing with a girl like that?” Cas stared at Dean, stared at his bright soul, the small dents that were healing, the last traces of hell dying away, leaving only the purity that Cas knew only Dean could have.

“Sorry for punching you by the way.”

She wears high heels, I wear dress shoes. She's at home and I'm right behind you. Dreaming about the day when you wake up and find that what you're looking for has been here the whole time.” Cas felt tears sting his eyes, and he didn’t understand why he was crying, only that he wished Dean could hear him.

If you could see that I'm the one who understands you, been here all along, so why can't you see? You belong with me.” Cas pushed the words out, willing Dean to hear him.

“Twice, though the first time you kind of deserved it, that second time, I was just angry.”

Standing by and waiting at your Impala. All this time how could you not know? Dean, you belong with me, you belong with me.” Cas stood up, staring down as Dean continued to talk on and on, like Cas was answering him. “Oh, I remember you driving to my rescue in the middle of the night. I'm the one who makes you laugh when you know you're 'bout to cry. And I know your favourite songs and you tell me 'bout your dreams. Think I know where you belong, think I know it's with me.

“I guess I just want you to know, no more hard feelings about leaving, and yeah. Hope we can go back to normal.”

Can't you see that I'm the one who understands you? Been here all along, so why can't you see? You belong with me.” The tears falling down Cas’ face were warm against his cold skin. “Standing by and waiting at your Impala. All this time, how could you not know? Dean, you belong with me, you belong with me.

“Cas?”

You belong with me. Have you ever thought just maybe, you belong with me? You belong with me.” Cas turned to look at Dean before blurting out “You belong with me!”

Dean stared at him and Cas could feel the warmth rising in his cheeks as he stared at Dean, tears falling down his cheeks, before turning and walking away.

What was happening to him?

~*~*~*~

Gabriel sat on the table while Sam typed away on the computer, exploring the internet world of England. He seemed fascinated and enthralled and it was kind of endearing, the way he got so hooked up on the small things, something not many people knew how to do these days. There was soft music playing in the background he sure wasn’t there a second ago, but it was soft and made him a little sleepy.

This is the last time that I'm ever gonna come here tonight. This is the last time - I will fall into a place that fails us all – inside.” And whoa, where the hell had that come from? Gabriel furrowed his brow because what ever had caused the others to sign before, now apparently was working their demony magick on them. Great.

Gabriel hated singing.

I can see the pain in you. I can see the love in you. But fighting all the demons will take time, it will take time.” And apparently he was singing to Sam, which was ridiculous, because he didn’t like Sammy. No, Sammy was fun to toy with and he was huge, and tall and human and…

The angels they burn inside for us. Are we ever, are we ever gonna learn to fly? The devils they burn inside of us. Are we ever gonna come back down? Come around, I'm always gonna worry about the things that could make us cold.

Crowley had joined in and damn they sung well together, but that wasn’t the point, the point was Crowley was singing to Bobby, who it was apparent was head over heels for the hunter, but Gabriel did not like Sam damn it!

This is the last time that I'm ever gonna give in tonight. Are there angels or devils crawling here? I just want to know what blurs and what is clear - to see.” Crowley walked towards Bobby who was reading a book and sat down on the arm of the chair. He figured it would affect them too, because from what his friend had said, no demons here had been immune. Still, it had been weird hearing Gabriel starting to sing, but he did have a lovely voice. “Still I can see the pain in you. And I can see the love in you. And fighting all the demons will take time it will take time.”

He pushed the book out of Bobby’s hands and he stared up at him, mouth opened to glare at him.

The angels they burn inside for us. Are we eve, are we ever gonna learn to fly? The devils they burn inside of us. Are we ever gonna come back down - come around? I'm always gonna worry about the things that could break us.” He and Gabriel were singing together again, and it sounded nice and Bobby was staring at him with an adorable slack jaw that Crowley couldn’t help but smile at.

If I was to give in - give it up - and then.” He leaned down and kissed him, kissed him for all his worth.

Take a breath - make it deep cause it might be the last one you get.” Gabriel was staring at Sam who was starting to peek over his laptop at him, with a weird expression in his eyes.

Be the last one that could make us cold…” Gabriel stared hard at Sam who was closing his laptop, his mouth open to say something, something that wouldn’t come out. “You know that they could make us cold…” Crowley and he were singing together and he could hear the hoarseness in his voice that told him he’d been making out with Bobby. “I'm always gonna worry about the things that could make us cold.

~*~*~*~

Castiel opened the door, Dean was behind him calling out his name, demanding what the hell he had meant, but Cas was having none of it, he pushed into the house and saw Crowley and Bobby sitting together, smiling and talking about something, while it looked like Sam and Gabriel were avoiding each other like the plague. Cas ignored it, his cheeks burning brightly as he sought out something, anything to stop these, all of this.

“Cas, wait would you…”

Everyone turned their attention to them, like they knew what had happened and they all stared like they knew just what had happened. Cas felt his cheeks go warmer and if he didn’t get out of here soon he was going to explode, he had to, he was so warm and embarrassed and Dean had heard him.

“Cas, wait, please!” He grabbed his arm. “Talk to me.”

Welcome to the planet. Welcome to existence. Everyone's here. Everyone's here.” Oh Father, not again, he couldn’t do this again, and it seemed like Dean heard him the whole time because he was staring wide eyed at him. “Everybody's watching you now. Everybody waits for you now. What happens next? What happens next?

I dare you to move. I dare you to move. I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor.” Sam and Bobby were singing with him now, Bobby pulling Crowley onto his lap and Sam staring at Gabriel who was plainly ignoring him. “I dare you to move. I dare you to move. Like today never happened. Today never happened before.

Welcome to the fallout. Welcome to resistance. The tension is here. The tension is here. Between who you are and who you could be.” Bobby didn’t hate singing; no he just didn’t understand why he was so compelled to do so. “Between how it is and how it should be.” He smiled at Crowley who was raising an eyebrow at him, most likely saying ‘payback’. Castiel and Sam were singing with him, and they didn’t sound too bad, if maybe a little flat.

I dare you to move. I dare you to move. I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor.” Bobby brushed his lips over Crowley’s. “I dare you to move. I dare you to move. Like today never happened. Today never happened.

Maybe redemption has stories to tell.” Sam was up off his feet and walking towards Gabriel, laptop abandoned. “Maybe forgiveness is right where you fell.” He dropped to his knees in front of the archangel. “Where can you run to escape from yourself?” he stared up at him with bright eyes a soft smile on his lips. “Where you gonna go? Where you gonna go? Salvation is here.” He whispered and placed his hands on his knees, almost pleading.

I dare you to move. I dare you to move. I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor.” Sam pushed himself up till he was in Gabriel’s personal space. “I dare you to move. I dare you to move. Like today never happened. Today never happened. Today never happened. Today never happened before.” He leaned over and kissed him, he just did, couldn’t stop himself, he just kissed him like it was the last thing he’d ever do.

Gabriel lifted him up and they were moving, Gabriel’s hands on his hips as they guided themselves away from everyone else and Sam only vaguely registered the sound of the front door slamming as they did so.
